Sarrafiye gold coins, hugely popular in Türkiye for weddings, holidays and saving, are gold coins minted to set weights and purity. Because each has a standard weight, they are easy to buy and sell.
The main coins
- Quarter (çeyrek) — the smallest and most common; about 1.8 grams, 22 karat.
- Half (yarım) — roughly twice the weight of a quarter.
- Full (tam / Cumhuriyet) — about 7.2 grams, 22 karat.
- Ata (Ata Lira) — the Atatürk-themed gold coin, available in full, half, quarter and in multiples such as 2.5 (gremse) and 5.
Weights can vary slightly by mint year and type.
New versus old minting
"New" and "old" minted coins trade at different prices on the market. The difference comes from the minting period and demand. You can see current values on our price list.
How it differs from gram gold
Gram gold (usually 24 karat bars) is the closest to pure gold with a low premium. Sarrafiye coins are 22 karat with a standard weight and suit traditions such as weddings and gifts. The gap between buying and selling prices (the spread) varies by product.
Which is better?
It depends on your purpose: quarter and half coins for gifts; gram gold or full/Ata coins for longer-term saving. Call us for current prices and availability.
